Setting Up GPRS, WAP, and MMS on LG KU990 Viewty

Well..it took me along time to finally figured out how to set up WAP using local carrier Celcom on LG KU990 Viewty. Actually i forgot that by using Celcom prepaid number i have setup my GPRS, WAP, and MMS again if i were to switch to a new handset. Back when i was still using Nokia 6233 the setup was a lot easier, so i have to scour the internet on how to actually do it for LG Viewty.

Using Digi was a lot easier to setup the GPRS, WAP, MMS and Steaming. You just have to type *128# select the 6th option, which is Mobile Features and if you're already have GPRS/MMS setup, select the 2nd option, which is the phone setup. Easy isn't it?

Well then, now on how to setup for Celcom.

i will try to make my tips as simple and easy to understand as i can, forgive me if my english is bad, after all it's only my second language. Okay, moving on.

First thing first, you should create an access point, actually one for each. Namely,

a. Celcom GPRS : for GPRS
b. Celcom MMS : for MMS, duh?!
c. Celcom Internet : for Email

1. Go to Phone Settings > Connectivity > Access Points
2. Add new
3. Key in these settings:

a. Celcom GPRS
----------------
Connection Title : Celcom GPRS
Bearer : GPRS
Authentication : none
Username : none
Password : none
APN : celcom

b. Celcom MMS
----------------
Connection Title : Celcom MMS
Bearer : GPRS
Authentication : none
Username : none
Password : none
APN : celcom

c. Celcom Internet
-------------------
Connection Title : Celcom Internet
Bearer : GPRS
Authentication : none
Username : none
Password : none
APN : celcom

Next, setting up WAP.

1. Go to Browser > Settings > Profiles
2. Add New
3. Key in these settings:

Service Name : Celcom GPRS
Homepage : http://wap.celcom.com.my
Connection Mode : TCP with proxy
IP Addrress : 010.128.001.242
Proxy Server Port : 8080
Security : Not Secure
Access Points : Celcom GPRS

4. Now, Activate.

Next, setting up MMS.

1. Go to Messaging > Settings > Multimedia Message > Multimedia Msg. Centre
2. Add New
3. Key in these settings:

Title : Celcom MMS
MMSC URL : http://mms.celcom.net.my
MMS Proxy : 010.128.001.242:8080
Connection Mode : TCP with proxy
Access Point : Celcom MMS

There you go, there should be no problem after this. You should be able to open Blogger and YouTube on LG Viewty from now on. Please be aware that by surfing the internet there will be charges deducted from your prepaid credit. If you're like me only using prepaid, these extra features provided by LG Viewty are just novelty.

p/s: These tips are only for Celcom carriers from Malaysia, for others or from international, please check your carrier accordingly.
